AI excels at this stuff. Point it at your source material. Tell it what you need. Watch it generate Canvas-ready assignments in minutes. Need to shorten a lesson because of a fire drill? Done. Want to create an enrichment activity for students who finish early? Easy.

I've watched teachers reclaim hours of their week using these tools. They use every minute of it to become better educators. Because that's what teachers do when you give them time. They teach.

ChatGPT gave me a solid draft in seconds. I swapped in the real details (assignments, class name, club options) and sent it.

The Result

Here’s an excerpt from what I sent (names removed):

“Thank you for reaching out and for your support from home. Your student is doing well so far and has completed the first assignments with strong results. I have noticed that his very detailed responses can sometimes create tension with classmates, and I’m coaching him on balancing his contributions. If he wants to explore more, our after-school Aerospace club would be a great fit.”

I sent it and moved on with my weekend.

A few days later, I got unexpected replies from my assistant principal and our district ESE director:

“Excellent communication with parents.”
“Answered all the questions, highlighted positives, and offered solutions. Great work.”

Being a first-year teacher at this school, that was a big early win, and it came from letting AI help with the hard part: tone.

4. Edit resulting draft for details, accuracy and your voice.
